that time of year

It’s coming to that time of year again.

First come the sniffles, then the sore throats, the coughs.

Suddenly, everyone is calling in sick to work and school. Not just one person, A LOT of people at once.

Ahhh, good old winter time. Well, its still autumn right now, but it’s almost winter and the season of sickness is fast approaching.

I for one, have jumped the queue and got in early. I started off sneezing. Then had a sore throat yesterday. Now today, my head hurts and God knows how I am going to play hockey tonight (maybe I’ll just volunteer myself for goalie, then I won’t have to run).

My brother has ‘severe bronchitis’ which could turn into pneumonia. He’s coughing like a person who’s smoked for 20 years.

So what can one do to NOT get sick?

  • Don’t hang around sick people (duh)
  • If the above is simply unavoidable, it is useful to carry a small bottle of hand disinfectant, which you can use to keep those nasty mean germs away
  • Take a vitamin C pill each day. It can lower your chances of getting a cold
  • Get plenty of sleep (else your immune system will be down)
  • Wear a face mask. If you really are desperate not to get sick.

Welcome to the flu/cold season, people. I hope your experience will be a pleasant one.

Mothers Day

Okay. So it’s mothers day today. The day where we all give presents to our mums, make them breakfast in bed, take them out for lunch.

I gave my mum a purple frilly shower cap. I know she’ll use it, so that makes me feel better knowing that my present will be used so I know that it wasn’t $9.95 wasted (hey, it’s the thought that counts).

When asked about where Mum wanted to go for lunch, she replied “Pilu.” This restaurant is QUITE expensive, but hey, it is mothers day so naturally Dad said “of course, whatever you like.”

Now Pilu is a lovely restaurant on Freshwater Beach. It has a lovely view and great food, I had roast pork and it was y-u-m-m-y. Of course for my dad, the worst part of the day was paying for the meal. But like I said, it’s all about mum today, so it was all ok.

Nobody puts in anywhere near as much effort on Fathers Day as they do for Mothers Day. Is it because it’s harder to buy gifts for Dad? Are our mums more special?

Well mum, you gave birth to me so I commend you for that. You still loved me even though I was a little shit as a kid. You let me borrow your Prada handbag and you gave me your old Louis Vuitton.

But you gave me love. Lots of it. And I love you for that.

To all the mums out there, you all deserve a medal.

Happy Mothers Day!

Love

I love a lot of things

I love my dog.

I love my new macbook (just got that yesterday)

I love my boyfriend.

I love my family.

I love eating.

I love Paris.

Ok, that is a lot of love. They’re different types of love. I love my dog like he’s my child- he’s relies on me and he needs me.

I love my new macbook pro 13 inch because well…. its awesome. That, and it’s something I’ve wanted for a long time. Maybe the whole thing of it being new adds to the whole excitement.

I love my boyfriend. This love is the great feeling of ‘being in love’. It’s deep, its  like theres a connection between the two of us and we understand each other completely (even though we do get shitty at each other).

I love my family. Well duh. Even though we annoy each other to hell, the love is still there. Its an unconditional love. My mummy loves me, even though I was a verrryyy difficult kid.

I love eating food. I guess you could say this is more enjoyment. My favourite foods would be crisps, cupcakes, meat, mashed potato, and junk food in general.

I love Paris. I lived there last year for about 6 months. At first, I didn’t like it because i was homesick. But I grew to love it. Everything about it just grew on me.

Isn’t it funny how love can manifest itself in different ways? It can pop in anyplace, any time in your life.

Some love stays forever, some disappears, some you can’t let go of, no matter how hard you try.

Here are some images of what love means to me 🙂
